About
The Coalition to Protect Missouri Taxpayers
Our Mission
Missourians for Fair Taxation is a statewide coalition of seniors, working families, small business owners, retirees, military families, and community organizations united against Amendment 5 — the bait-and-switch politicians power grab - that triples the sales tax without a vote of the people.
MFT was initiated by Missouri REALTORS® to protect housing affordability and defend constitutional taxpayer protections that would be brushed aside by the politicians' Amendment 5.
Why This Fight Matters
Missouri Voters have enjoyed specific constitutional taxpayer protections for nearly half a century – all voter-approved, yet every one of your pocketbook protections could be ignored by lawmakers under Amendent 5:
The 1980 Hancock Amendment gives the people the final say at the ballot box on big tax increases, but Amendment 5 allows lawmakers to pass the largest tax increase in Missouri history without putting it to a vote of the people.
In 2010, 83.7% of voters approved a constitutional amendment barring the taxing of buying or selling a home. But Amendment 5 lets lawmakers simply ignore your constitutional protection and make it more expensive to achieve the American Dream of home ownership.
The 2016 Taxpayer Protection Amendment approved by voters banned putting new sales or use taxes on service you use every day. But Amendment 5 allows the politicians to expand the sales tax to countless services – haircuts, child care, car repairs, health and dental care, veterinarians, farm repairs, and the list goes on.
This is a power grab by politicians, who want Missourians to surrender their own constitutional taxpayer protections. You would not have a vote on The Everything Tax, and the nonpartisan Missouri Budget Project estimates 80% of Missourians would pay more taxes under the politicians' Amendment 5.
We are organized to make sure Missourians know what's actually in Amendment 5 before they vote on August 4, 2026.
